Diagnostic strategy and therapeutic management of sinonasal inverted papilloma: our experience with review of literature

Abstract Background The sinonasal inverted papilloma is a rare benign tumor, characterized by local aggressiveness, high rate of recurrence after surgical resection, and the possibility malignant transformation. aims this study are to analyze diagnostic strategy therapeutic modalities evaluate results surgery. Methods We report retrospective study, including patients operated for in our department. Preoperatively, all were assessed CT scan (computed tomography), 9 them MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). Results average age was 52 years with male predominance. most common symptom unilateral nasal obstruction. endoscopic appearance suggestive (IP) 75% cases. Thirty-two underwent an exclusive endonasal surgery; one patient combined approach. Two external approaches. A observed 4 (11%). Conclusion Preoperative investigation IP essentially based on MRI, also required case recurrence. Histological examination entire tumor crucial rule out associated carcinoma. “all endoscopic” management not always achievable these tumors.
